Atlanta, GA – Women Watch Afrika Condemns Supreme Court Order That Allows for Deportation to Third-Party Countries

On June 24, 2025, the United States Supreme Court stopped the Massachusetts District Court’s order that prevented immigrants from deportation to third-party countries without due process; this essentially means:

  • This decision allows the Department of Homeland Security to unconstitutionally remove immigrants to third party nations in which they have no connections, no personal ties, and hold no nationality
  • It allows the Department of Homeland Security to make this removals WITHOUT affording the immigrants proper notice or due process (a legal opportunity to contest the removal order).
  • The decision further opens the door for immigrants to face torture, persecution, and very likely–death

Women Watch Afrika notes that this third party removals are part of the current administrations’ unfair policy to bypass the refusal of countries of origin to accept unfairly deported immigrants.

Sadly, with this decision by the Supreme Court, the Department of Homeland Security is empowered to even more boldly disregard the rule of law, create chaos, encourage cruel and unusual punishment like torture, and disregard the fundamental principle that everyone–no matter their immigration status and no matter their alleged legal violation or charges–is entitled to protection under the law and to due process.

The blatant manner in which the administration has been disregarding due process and the rule of law has been confusing to a nation that is supposed to be ruled by constitutional law.  This empowerment by the Supreme Court allows for the continuation of unconstitutional activities and raises the optics of how much further the United States, under this current administration, has fallen into disrepair, lawlessness, and chaos.

Women Watch Afrika stands in solidarity with everyone affected by this ruling: the immigrants unfairly targeted and mistreated by this disregard of the rule of law and due process, their families, and all those vulnerable to cruel and inhumane situations.  This is also a violation of human rights.

Immigrants are human beings and entitled to fair and equal treatment. Everyone should speak out against this decision and all policies that erode due process, violate the rule of law, and allow for cruel and inhuman punishment.  We call on members of Congress to hold the Department of Homeland Security accountable for all actions that violate due process and to speak out against this decision.

CALL TO ACTION: We urge you to reach out to your Member of Congress to speak out against this decision.

Women Watch Afrika will continue to speak out against Injustice. We are not free, unless all of us are free.
