Women Watch Afrika’s Statement in Response to the ICE Killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota

January 7, 2026 by Preye Cobham, Esq.

Women Watch Afrika’s Statement in Response to the ICE Killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota:

For Immediate Release
January 7, 2026

Women Watch Afrika is condemning and sounding the alarm after witnessing yet another death caused by ICE and the current federal government administration.

This incident is not an isolated event.  Since 2024, there have been a total of five deaths caused by ICE in carrying out its alleged “immigration crack down” and over twenty deaths in detention related incidences.   This action is part of a dangerous, escalating pattern of government agencies causing unsafe situations and chaos with their actions of abducting people from the streets, schools, neighborhoods, airports, and workplaces with growing impunity.  In this recent situation, Renee Nicole Good was shot to death by federal law enforcement while acting as a legal observer.  Women Watch Afrika condemns the excessive and egregious use of force and power by ICE.

For more than a year communities have been living in fear as ICE and federal authority misuse the power of their office to create unsafe, dangerous, and deadly situations with unlawful and excessive force.

These type of acts have continued to chip away at our collective civil liberties. The government and ICE must be held accountable for all its unlawful actions. This cannot be allowed to be considered normal or acceptable. Our communities need to know that we are not a country of lawlessness.

Women Watch Afrika is calling on Congress to do its duty in providing the checks and balances outlined by the United States Constitution: Congress needs to check the power of the federal government and hold ICE accountable for this homicide and all unlawful acts.

The Constitution affords every individual–regards of race, sex, citizenship. or immigration status–the right to due process and dignity.  No government (local, state, or federal) is above the law and all must and should be held accountable to the Constitution and held accountable for any and all violations of the law.

Evil can only win if people fail to speak up.  The negative stereotyping of immigrants is being used as justification for silence: this needs to stop.  The majority of the immigrant community members do not fall within those negative stereotypes that are being spread in the media.  Most communities members are focused on feeding their families, building stronger communities, and working toward a better future.

Women Watch Afrika calls on everyone in our communities, in the state of Georgia, and in the nation to heed the warning of this call to action and demand more of the leaders elected to positions of power based on their promises to protect people and uphold the law; and to hold accountable officers of the law that violate said laws.  We will continue to advocate, organize, and protect our communities, and we demand our representatives do the same.
