WOMEN WATCH AFRIKA CONDEMNS THE DEADLY ATTACK ON THE ISLAMIC CENTER OF SAN DIEGO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 19, 2026
Atlanta, GA — Women Watch Afrika (WWA) condemns the deadly attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego. On May 18, 2026, the news broke that two gunmen motivated by hate, attacked the Islamic Center of San Diego (a mosque and school in San Diego, CA), killing three people. Women Watch Afrika was saddened and heartbroken at such a heinous act, especially during this time when families should be celebrating with their loved ones as their children complete another year of school or are graduating.
Women Watch Afrika is troubled by this senseless shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the broader Muslim community. It is a constitutional right to worship in any form we choose. No one should fear for their lives in a place of worship, or in the community at large. Enough is enough of targeting people because of their religion.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims’ families, the Muslim community in San Diego, and to all those impacted by this act of violence. Women Watch Afrika strongly condemns in entirety any form of religious violence and all forms of violence that target people because of who they are or how they worship.
