Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: A Day of Remembrance, Awareness, and Service.
Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and this year marks the 42nd anniversary of MLK Day, a celebration of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On this day, let us take the time to pause and reflect.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most influential civil rights leader, advocate, and Georgia native, was a man with a Dream. He raised his voice and spoke out for civil rights for all, for equity and justice, for voting rights for all, and to empower and uplift low-income, marginalized Black and Brown communities.
Unfortunately, in this current day and age, we still live under state and federal laws and policies that fail to address the inequities that Dr. King spent his life speaking out against.
At Women Watch Afrika, we work and advocate to empower the marginalized, low income, refugee and immigrant communities, and we speak out against unjust laws that affect our community. We applaud the courage and resilience required for newly arriving refugees, asylees, and immigrants to start their lives over after fleeing persecution, war, or natural disaster.
Today as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are reminded of the courage and resilience required to fight for justice and equity.
Let this day serve as a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we are united and work together to achieve the goal of human rights, dignity, and justice. We are Stronger Together.
The work continues–the advocacy for human rights, immigrant rights, women’s rights, civil rights, and justice will continue. Women Watch Afrika will continue to be an unwavering advocate for our community.
