Atlanta, GA —Today the Biden Administration announced a plan to use his executive action (parole authority) to protect thousands of spouses of U.S. Citizens, including eligible DACA recipients, from deportation and providing them with a pathway to adjustment of status and citizenship and work authorization. This stunning decision is a direct result of years of advocacy and organizing by many immigrant focused organization who have always strongly supported the policy of keeping families together and fighting for immigrant rights.
Women Watch Afrika commends President Biden on this executive action as it will provide permanent protections for hundreds of thousands of immigrants who reside in the United Stations, especially the approximate 40,000 who will be positively affected by this action in the state of Georgia. In light of the many adverse bills, laws, and executive orders that have negatively impacted the immigrant community this year, this new executive action provides much needed light and life-changing relief.
“This is a victory for the movement to improve the lives of immigrants, refugees, and asylees; it is a victory in the work we do daily as we fight for immigrant rights. This new policy will provide peace of mind to so many and will keep families together. While there is still a need for comprehensive immigration reform, we are encouraged by this step taken by the President and his Administration. Women Watch Afrika will continue to advocate for immigrant rights, justice, and equality; and we will always speak out against discriminatory and unjust laws.” ~ Preye Cobham, Esq., Legal Director, Women Watch Afrika
