Support Women Watch Afrika Today for #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday is here! Support Women Watch Afrika Today!
Women Watch Afrika as a grassroots organization has always been on the frontline supporting immigrants, refugees, and asylees in the state of Georgia.
We have served the community with much needed support: providing rental assistance to 200 families, monthly communal food and COVID-19 support to 650 families, diapers to 100 nursing mothers in need, and provided financial assistance to refugees and immigrants who have lost their breadwinners due to domestic violence, COVID-19, and ICE Immigration detention.
We provide services to immigrants, refugees, and asylees from over 23 African nations, as well as immigrants from Jamaica, Haiti, Burma, Afghanistan, Vietnam, to name a few. And with the increasing toll of the current landscape and continuing health scares, we have expanded our efforts to assist all community members (citizens and non-citizens, immigrants and non-immigrants alike) with the monthly communal food and COVID-19 support and diapers support.
Our November 25th Communal Support and Jollof event was a wonderful success! WWA provided hot meals (Jollof Rice, Chicken/Fish); Household Items, Non-perishable Food items, Diapers, etc. to over 150 members of the community.
We have served over 950 families this year and are on track to exceed that number in the next year. In addition to providing them financial and tangible assistance, we also provide educational services, crisis and mental/emotional health counseling, legal services, and empowerment services.
Many of the refugees, asylees, and immigrants we serve arrive to the United States with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Most refugees and asylees flee for their lives and leave everything behind.
As you may know, the individuals that are brought into the country by the United States as refugees are required to pay back the cost of the airplane flights. The need to find a stable job, the rising costs of everything from rent to food, to gas, to medication, etc., all force many into distress. Additionally, the pandemic has led many refugees and immigrants who worked at the Chicken and Meat Factories to be laid off and many have gotten severely ill.
Women Watch Afrika also provides Citizenship Clinics to help our clients in completing the Citizenship Applications. Additionally, WWA conducts Citizenship Prep classes to help our clients to prepare for the Citizenship test. We currently have a 100% pass rate of all our students becoming Naturalized Citizens and passing the test on the first try!
After becoming Citizens, we help register our clients to vote. Our Voter Registration and Voter Education Outreach is well-known in the community. While WWA remains nonpartisan, we ensure the community is educated about voting, new election laws, and prepared to exercise their right to vote. We conduct phone banking, text banking, canvassing, radio and internet outreach, and leaf drops to the community.
Today, we ask you to JOIN US in our good work–Join us in the work to build a stronger, safer, healthier, educated, happier, and empowered community.
