Call To Action! Close The ACDC Follow Up

February 16, 2021 by Preye Cobham, Esq. Leave a Comment

CALL TO ACTION!!
Please call Mayor Bottoms and her staff today, 2/16/21, between 9am-3pm, and request an emergency meeting and demand a jail closure date!
Mayor Bottom (404) 330-6100
Rashad Taylor City (404) 606-6671
Jon Keen (404) 272-4598
History: If you’re not aware, there has been back door dealings between Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat and the City Of Atlanta in regards to the lease/purchase of ACDC for the expansion of Fulton County Jail. Our mayor clearly stated that Atlanta was no longer in the jailing business. This back door dealing is unacceptable.
Script: tell them why you personally support jail closure
– Examples:
*Those who are held in the City jail are there because Atlanta has criminalized poverty and homelessness. Is this the city we want to live in? We just lived through uprisings for racial justice – do we want to respond by keeping a jail which disproportionately targets Black people open?
*An elected official is only as strong as their word. When an elected official goes back on their word to help the people most in need, they should be ashamed.
Do the right thing Mayor Bottoms. Close the jail ATL and keep us safe!
