Even in the midst of all the protests and education, the murders of Black people are still continuing! THIS HAS TO STOP!

Women Watch Afrika condemns the murder of Rayshard Brooks by the Atlanta Police Department.  Brooks was murdered by two White police officers on Friday night.  His crime? Falling asleep at a Wendy’s drive-thru and running away on foot from the police.  So the Atlanta Police Department SHOT him in the BACK. 3 TIMES.

Falling asleep at a drive-thru should NOT be a death sentence.  Running away should NOT be a death sentence.  A taser is NOT a deadly weapon.

It is interesting how very similar cases of taser incidents with non-Black individuals have not ended up as death sentences.  It is even more interesting that somehow a fleeing Black man is so terrifying that he had to be shot in the BACK.

Tell us APD: you were the ones chasing him, you were the ones with GUNS, he was running away with a non-deadly taser in hand, which one of you should have been more afraid?

We stand by the Brooks family and the mourning Atlanta community in justified disgust and anger.  The Atlanta Police Department handled this situation very badly because all they saw was that Rayshard Brooks is Black.  Black men should not be hunting targets for White police officers.  Nor should Black women be hunting targets for White police officers.  All the incessant Police Brutality against Black People NEEDS TO STOP!

STOP KILLING BLACK PEOPLE! Black people are HUMANS too. Black Lives Matter.
