Enough is Enough: WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER!
The Southern Movement Assembly, held in Atlanta on August 22-23
Greetings Project South family,
300+ participants & 50 delegations from every state in the U.S South. 6 frontline assemblies.1 Southern Movement Assembly IV! And…. It ain’t over! We are STILL stronger together! 
 
The work of the Southern Movement Assembly and the many organizations and communities that participated in Southern Movement Assembly IV in Atlanta, Georgia on August 22nd-23rd is still in full effect! The 21st century Southern Freedom Movement is alive and well! 
 
             
Southern Movement Assembly IV 
Culmination of the Unite to Fight Summer Organizing Drive 2014 
JOIN the DIGITIAL HANGOUT: Join us on September 18th, from 6pm EST to 7pm EST, to share reflections from our Synthesis Commission (representatives from each of the six frontline assemblies and the SMA4 Facilitation Team) about the SMA, learn about the next steps and commitments that were made, and find out about ways to plug into what’s going down this fall and up-coming winter!

Delegations represented young people in Central Appalachia, anti-violence work in New Orleans, Jacksonville FL and Clarkston GA, workers and folks fighting mass incarceration and police crimes from Tennessee, environmental justice organizers from San Antonio, North Carolina, and Slidell LA, youth from Montgomery, Jackson, Atlanta, Charleston, Detroit, Boston, Baltimore, and civic engagement leaders in Alabama and Louisiana. 
 

 

Upcoming Youth Programs 

On September 23, the Youth Community Action Project (YCAP) will begin its fall programming. Youth meet every Tuesday and Thursday 4-6 PM at the Project South offices to learn about community organizing and political education. 
 
We are excited to announce that the program Real Talk: Stand Up for Parents is kicking off regular meetings on Friday, September 26 from 4-6 PM.  
 
Tune in every other Friday at 7:30 PM starting on September 19 to WRFG 89.3 to hear Youth Speak Truth (YST), which highlights the voices and experiences of member leaders from YCAP and Real Talk.
 

Southern All Stars Unite to Fight – Summer

                                                                      
 
 
Enough is Enough – Unite to Fight!
 
70 people participated in the Unite to Fight Organizing Institute 
 
5000 miles were covered in 3 Road Tours across 10 states

8 University Sin Fronteras classes generated movement  knowledge
 
  1 Southtosouth.org website was re-imagined & re-launched 
 
2 Youth-led Movement Assemblies were organized in Jackson MS and Jacksonville FL
 
1 Courthouse Action demanded freedom for Marissa Alexander
 
34 young people graduated from the Septima Clark Community Power Institute
 
300 people traveled from 13 Southern states, 4 Northern sites, and Puerto Rico to participate as strong delegates and movement representatives in the fourth Southern Movement Assembly, August 22-23
